Melanie obtained an M.D. degree from the University of Frankfurt/M. in Germany and a Ph.D. from the Picower Graduate School of Molecular Medicine in New York. In 1998, she started her own group at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg and moved part of her lab to the Gladstone Institute in 2002. Here, she continues her studies on Tat transactivation and the pathogenesis of hepatitis C virus infection. In her free time, she tries to keep up with running and enjoys all outdoor activities that she can do with her two young children.
